Brick

‘Brick, A World History’ (Thames & Hudson, 2003)

Architectural history has traditionally been structured by either country or style - books abound on subjects such as ‘French Architecture’ or ‘Gothic Architecture.’

The academic James WP Campbell and I took an alternative tack in what become my first book of architectural photography and our first collaboration as writer and photographer.

‘Brick’ is the history of architecture defined by this single (and singular) building material.

“A mighty tome...impeccable photographs” (Jonathan Glancey, The Guardian)

'Wonderful ... highly seductive for any architect, with page after page of beautiful large photographs of every conceivable way of using brick ... the pictures, juxtapositions and themes are compelling’ (RIBA Journal)

'Exceptionally interesting and beautiful’ (The Sunday Telegraph)
